The Three Bottles Of Liquor Everyone Should Have In Their Cabinet

Posted on

If you have moved out for the first time or just turned 21, you might be wondering how to go about starting your home bar and may see a lot of information out there stating that you need dozens of bottles to have a competent setup. While that is true if you were going for a fully-fledged bar, it is not necessary for a beginner bar that is just for you and some close friends. Here are three main bottles that you should have which will form the basis of so many future cocktails that you will wonder how you got along before you had them.

Rum

Rum is one of the most popular spirits in the world and comes in a couple of different flavors but, importantly for your home bar, is used in many popular cocktails which makes it essential. Even if you don't like the taste of rum by itself, it adds a lot of depth when mixed with other fruity flavors and is always a big hit at a party. Whether you intend to go all night or just have a couple of drinks, you need to have some rum around to make sure that you can create a mojito or a pina colada.

Gin

Gin is a slightly more acquired taste than rum, but don't let that fool you. There are many people out there who solely drink gin cocktails and have for many decades. It is one of the oldest forms of liquors, dating back almost a thousand years. Gin and tonic (aptly named) is an increasingly popular cocktail that provides a nice, tart counter to most of the sweeter drinks that you will find out there but then you can also create the classic martini which is always a hit that everyone thinks is cool and fun thanks to a certain James Bond.

Tequila

Tequila might be the most polarizing option out of the three due to the fact that so many people either love it or hate it. Those who hate it most likely have bad experiences with it when they were young. Cheaper tequila is exceptionally strong-tasting and leaves a very big impression on those who have had it. That is why you should try for a slightly older, smoother tequila which is good on its own and in some very popular drinks such as a margarita (or one of the many variations on the margarita) or even something more obscure like El Diablo.
