Cocktails You Can Make With Red Wine

Posted on

No matter how much you love red wine, you may not want to drink it on its own all of the time. Thankfully, there are plenty of red wine cocktails you can create in order to shake things up a little. Here are a few such recipes to get you started.

Sangaree

You've probably heard of sangria, the fruity wine drink that's popular in Spain. Well, the Sangaree is similar, but a little bolder. To make one cocktail, you will need:

  • 2 ounces of your favorite red wine
  • 1 ounce of apple brandy
  • 1/2 ounce of gin
  • 1/2 ounce of agave nectar
  • A dash of bitters
  • A pinch of cinnamon

Combine all of the ingredients in a wine glass, and stir well. Slowly place one or two large ice cubes in the glass. Allow them to chill the drink for a couple of minutes, and then sip it through a straw.

Temptation

This drink is so rich it almost tastes sinful! It's a good one to pair with a slice of chocolate cake or even some chocolate truffles after dinner. To make one temptation, you'll need:

  • 3 ounces of dry red wine
  • 1 ounce of cold brew coffee
  • 1/2 ounce of vanilla vodka
  • A dash of simple syrup

Combine the above ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Shake until condensation forms on the outside of the shaker. Then, pour the drink into a martini glass or a lowball glass, and enjoy.

Red Wine Margarita

Making a margarita with red wine sounds really strange at first, but once you try it, you're almost certain to be impressed. The red wine really balances out the tart flavors of the lime, and there's just enough tequila in the recipe for you to barely taste it. To make one red wine margarita, you'll need:

  • 1 1/2 ounce of red wine
  • 1 1/2 ounces of lime juice
  • 1 ounce of simple syrup
  • 1/2 ounce of tequila
  • a dash of orange liqueur

Add the above ingredients to a cocktail shaker, and shake until condensation forms on the outside of the shaker. Pour the cocktail into a glass that has been lined with sugar. Add a lime wedge to the rim if you desire, and enjoy.

Red wine is great on its own, but it is also a great cocktail ingredient. Give the ideas above a try, and don't be afraid to experiment a little. You may discover a new favorite that you continue to make again and again.
